The Legacy (Danny Hooper)
When
my Dad was about 23 he took up the guitar.
He was the first in his family to
nurture the gift of music. This developed into a
dream and soon he and
Mum could be seen performing at various
functions across Adelaide.
It
wasn’t long before they started a family and the gift was passed on to
my three
sisters
and eventually me.
At age
10, Dad sat me down to teach me the guitar and over several years this
beautiful gift
of music became my passion which, in turn, is being passed on to
my children. I
have
called it The Legacy
because that’s just what a Legacy is.
Something
created and then handed down
through generations.
It was just a dream in my Dads heart
A young man not more than 23 Who’d have known that old guitar
Would someday become a legacy He
sang his way to a young girl’s heart They made plans to start
a family And with the son she placed in his arms
Came the chance to share the legacy We
didn’t have much but the good Lord’s touch Times were hard
back then But the dream stood strong as the years rolled on
And the journey never ends What a gift he carved from that
old guitar When dad handed on the legacy I was ten years old when my life changed
Dad said come sit down with me Didn’t know back then how much
he gave When he handed on the legacy We didn’t have much but the good Lord’s touch
Times were hard back then But the dream stood strong as the
years rolled on And the journey never ends What a
gift he carved from that old guitar When dad handed on the
legacy We didn’t have much
but the good Lord’s touch Times were hard back then
But the dream stood strong as the years rolled on And the
journey never ends That old
guitar sure seen some change Three generations full of
memories It still brings a smile to a young boys face
As I hand on the Legacy. But there’s so much more… |
